How to: Subscribe
This blog is a lot more useful if you check it regularly, like two or three times a week. But what if you forget? If you have a My Yahoo or Google homepage, or use a blog “aggregator” like Bloglines, you can subscribe to this page so you don’t have to always come back to check for posts. Instead, every time I put up something new, you’ll see a link and summary on that other page. Here are three different ways to do it:
Bloglines
This is the way I keep track of the 40 or so blogs I follow. You can subscribe at http://www.bloglines.com ,though you may want to watch this 5-minute YouTube video that makes it all quite clear:
Netvibes
If you don’t already go to Yahoo or Google, another good browser start page is Netvibes, which makes it very easy to subscribe to blogs and other kinds of content. If you want some ideas, look at this article.
MY YAHOO instructions
If you have a yahoo email address, you already have a My Yahoo page, even if you’ve never been there before. Go to http://my.yahoo.com and enter the log in for your regular Yahoo email. On the My Yahoo page, find the little plus sign and click on the link to “Add Content.” Next to the “Find” button, there’s a small link that reads “Add RSS by URL”. Click on this. In the URL box that comes up, type this: http://drgarrigus.edublogs.org/feed/ and hit the button. Now you get a screen that says “Get History of Colonial Latin America on My Yahoo”. Click the yellow button that says “Add to My Yahoo.”
If you’re using Yahoo beta, like I am, click on the tab that says “personalize this page”. Then under “Add content”, click “add RSS feed.” In the box type http://drgarrigus.edublogs.org/feed and hit the button.
Google Personalized Homepage Instructions
If you have a personalized Google homepage [anyone can set one up at http://www.google.com/ig] . Click on “Add Stuff” at the far right-hand side of the page. On the next page, click on “add feed or gadget”on the left-hand side of the page. Click there and put the following into the box that comes up: http://drgarrigus.edublogs.org and hit the button.
