I have two up on WebCT now [and no quizzes yet] when I had hoped to have 4. There will be another up early tomorrow and I hope to have the quizzes up for those up by Wednesday night, if I can find an internet connection. Those three will be all for this week; then I’ll try to have another batch of 3 or 4 up next weekend. See you next week — and enjoy The Mission!

Speaking of missions, this image is of a colonial-era statue of St Philip of Jesus. He was born in Mexico, became a Franciscan priest, and was martyred in the Japanese city of Nagasaki while on a mission in that country in 1597.

These were good papers and most people are really showing improvement! The cases are so rich that I had an idea — IF no one else worked on your same Colonial Lives case, why don’t you go ahead and do your project on the same case, if you want to?

However there was a certain amount of overlap. 2 people worked on chapter 7; 3 people worked on chapter 10; 3 people worked on chapter 13. So some of those people need to find new chapters for the project.

Hi! I wanted to let you know that you can find the PowerPoint files from Wednesday night’s class if you log in to WebCT and go to our class. Let me know if you have trouble finding or reading them. By next week I hope to be recording the audio that goes along with the slides and that will be up on WebCT as well.

I don’t want to overwhelm you with electronic tools, so we’ll be slowly introducing you to some of the things we’ll be using this semester. Coming up later on the blog: a “can you find the plagiarism”exercise. And later I’ll ask you to use Mavspace to send me an image of colonial Latin America. But for now, get caught up on the Mann book and take a look at WebCT!
